252 Acre Michaud Vineyard for sale in Monterey County
Located in the shadows of an extinct volcano (Pinnacles National Park) in South Monterey County is a 252 acre piece of land known as The Michaud Vineyard. This gem of a vineyard has 28.5 acres of vines planted in some exceptional and very unique soil comprised of mostly limestone, decomposed granite and silica. In addition to the great soil, the climate has big temperature swings from day to night which as owner Michael Michaud will tell you, is perfect for growing award winning wine grapes. Grapes grown here turn out nice and ripe without losing their acidity. Click here for a breakdown of the grapes grown at Michaud Vineyard and in the region.
Much of the infrastructure needed to build a world class winery is in place including electricity run to various locations on the site, several wells and water collection systems from an 8000 acre watershed above this property and even a reservoir. The owner has done extensive drainage work around the property and there are roads cut in to various potential building sites such as the main residence, a winery, tasting room, guest cottage, etc all with great views. There are several structures on the property now which aid in the day to day operation of the vineyard including a 2 bedroom 1 bath guest house, a pump house and a storage shed.
Located just an hour from the Monterey Peninsula, and hour and 20 minutes from San Jose and 2 hours from San Francisco, Michaud Vineyard is a bit off the beaten path but holds potential to be a world class winery and wine tasting destination.
The Pinnacles National Park
The Pinnacles National Park located on the border between Monterey County and in San Benito County near Soledad, CA in Monterey County or Hollister in San Benito County. Originally home to Native American, the Pinnacles was established as a 2500 acre National Monument in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt. The Civilian Conservation Corps along with Horace Bacon added roads, trails and generally made the park much more accessible than it was. The park also grew from a modest 2500 acres to around 26,000 acres by the time President Barack Obama signed into law the legislation passed by the Congress to redesignate the monument into a National Park.
